... and the time came when the rival princes of Carcassonne became more and more power-hungry and strove with all means for the crown of the dominion.

So they invented new ways of protecting their cities and weakening those of their opponents; they built longer roads and conquered farms than all the princes before them.

They did not even shy away from occult powers - despite their Christian cathedrals.

A new, dark age had dawned...
